Having negative thoughts in this time of quarantine is inevitable. One post that I came across while scrolling my social media account says that mental health problem will be the next pandemic we ought to find solutions to. Well, I am not surprised.
Since the quarantine period started, I had a difficult time adjusting working from home. My focus adamantly refused to stay; I even caught myself sleeping in the middle of my work shift. My mind and body were totally uncooperative. Not to mention that my thoughts were wilder at night; it took a lot of my precious time reviewing anything that I did not want to be reinforced while slowly immersing in my subconscious mind.
Day in and day out, I checked the number of positive cases and fear started to overpower me to the point of imposing verbal rules to my senior parents. The words that came out from my mouth tend to be harsher than normal days; my sleepless nights became habitual and my worries grew day by day. I intentionally stayed in my room most of the days to focus and work on my concentration but failed. I ended up chatting to everyone I don’t usually communicate with.
I strongly think that this is the only admirable point of quarantine – reconnecting with people, virtually though. The “how are you’s” became more genuine and advises were more on point. Reconnecting with people and being more active on group chats rather than being taciturn reminded me that I am not alone. Thus, I decided to stop worrying and diverted instead on the good points from all of this and that is being with my family fighting this pandemic together 24/7.
After a month of being quarantined, I went back to writing which has been my major stress-reliever. However, aside from writing I also listen to affirmations every morning before I start my day and before I go to bed.
According to Dr. Wayne Dyer, “You create your thoughts, your thoughts create your intentions, and your intentions create your reality.”
“Affirmations or the I am statements are used to reprogram the subconscious mind, to encourage us to believe certain things about ourselves or about the world and our place within it. Subconscious mind plays a major role in the actualization of our lives and the manifestation of our desires. What we believe about ourselves at a subconscious level, can have a significant impact on the outcome of events,” according to Walter E. Jacobson.
You can find affirmation videos on YouTube but this is what I listen to every day,see link below:
Check it out and probably try it as well and tell me how it helps you. In my case, I listen to affirmations in the morning while doing the proper breathing, there is an app for that, too. I stay still and repeat the I am statements mentally or even out loud. I avoid communicating to anyone while doing this. Before going to bed, I spend my 30 minutes listening to it while clearing my mind and preparing my body to rest. So far, listening to affirmations has definitely lessened my worries. I am more in control of my emotions and my responses.
This quarantine has somehow tripled my worries. Being a worrier has been my battle for two years already and I know this time I need to do something to fully control it. After all, self-awareness is always the key to my well-being.
Do not be afraid to listen to your negative thoughts but do not ever let it overrule you. Be more aware of your needs and wants. Lastly, control your demon.
Love lots and cheers to continuous positive mindset <3
